Autopoïesis and Education, Dialogue Session with Guus Geisen
Guus Geisen is a member of SoL Netherlands network; for years now, he is been working in the educational sector where he gets relevant cross-country experience.
Autopoiesis literally means self-creation, self-production and was introduced by the biologists Maturana and Varela in 1972. Here, they provide their perspective on the biological foundation of cognition and knowledge.
Self-creation is based on learning in a changing environment and this is the essence of all living systems. To create yourself learning has to be meaningful and the skills to learn become a habit that lasts forever.
In this complex and fast changing world we need skills and tools (systems thinking and many other tools) to understand complexity.
This book gives a framework for the design of education and the learning process in this fast changing time. Guus is adressing some relevant questions to build a sustainable world: How does the child´s brain work with respect to the learning process? How does education work today? What shall be done in education in order for childs to understand how to treat the planet earth properly?
